Introduction To Massage Workshop |
Dear Friends,
It has been an exciting last 4 weeks, filled with many of life's challenges but followed by many laughs with good friends and a good glass of wine...or two! In February this year we were fortunate enough to hear Annette Sym speak at a Business SWAP breakfast. Annette is a hugely successful Australian author of the "Symply TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE" series of cookbooks filled with easy recipes which not only taste fantastic, but are all healthy! But my story is not about Annette, it is about another very inspiring friend of ours. Her name is Julie Kay from DLF Therapy. At this particular breakfast Julie told me she was going to write a book and of course my reply after hearing Annette was "me too!". From the day we saw Annette Sym to the day Julie was holding her published book in her hand was just 6 weeks.
Julie gave us a copy of her book and I must say I started reading it and could not put it down and when I did, David snatched it up and I haven't seen it for a few weeks. I admitted to Julie last week that I had not read the book yet but David had finished it the day before but now wanted to read it again. So, last week we flew to Sydney to see The Amazing Human Body Expo and I decided to read the book on the flight down to Sydney. WOW! Wasn't I in for a huge awakening. If anyone has seen or heard the hype over "The Secret", this book takes it to another level. Whilst I didn't finish the book on the way down, I certainly couldn't wait to get back to it when I got on the plane to come home. When I got off the plane at Coolangatta, I had just finished the last page and did I have a different view of life.
The book is titled "The Missing Link - A Powerful Guide Linking the Physical, Mental and Spiritual Powers of Self". It has given me a very clear insight and discovery into which particular areas of my life hold me back from achieving my dreams and goals, just as it said it would. Some of the things I learn't about myself were things I don't even know whether I wanted to know, but it has given me a big wake up call to what is working and what is not in my life and now that I have identified that, I can certainly take action and make more informed decisions.
One of the chapters is on Forgiveness and reads 'One of the hardest things to do in life is to forgive. We feel that if we forgive someone we are saying that we accept their actions as OK. Their actions may have caused us extreme pain or we feel robbed of happiness and peace. You want them to feel and know what that pain feels like and that you have been wounded. You may even want revenge. You are instantly in the energy vibration of pain and you have imprisoned your soul. It doesn't feel good, it hurts.'
'Forgiveness is not saying that you are accepting of the action or cause. It is saying that you release the judgement and punishment back to the person involved. You can give them back responsibility for their own actions. You understand that whatever they have done to cause you pain will have a consequence.'
Julie is not only an amazing Author, but has become a wonderful friend and colleague. We are teaming up with Julie Kay along with Leonie McDonald and Narelle Duncan from Healing via Nature to present a fun-filled 2 hour Energy Evening on 12th June 2007. On another note, we are extremely pleased to announce that Scentual NRG now proudly supports Blue Care.
Late last year, my Grandfather had a fall as he was getting out of his chair and broke his hip. He underwent emergency surgery and as a result of a reaction to the anaesthetic, now suffers from Dementia.
At Christmas time, David and I flew home to spend Christmas with him and we were overwhelmed that on Christmas Day, Blue Care arrived to bathe him. Pop has just turned 80 in February and Nan is not too far behind him and she does an amazing job looking after him but it is the help from Blue Care she appreciates most. To give up all or part of your Christmas to help others is a dedication worth many praises. I know we appreciate their service and so does my Nan and Pop.
As a result, you will notice throughout our website there are now Gift Packs featuring the Blue Care logo. All of these packs have been designed to fundraise much needed funds for Blue Care. Proceeds from these funds will be forwarded at the end of each month to Blue Care so that they can continue their research quest with The University of Queensland into Dementia, Incontinence and Palliative Care, the three key areas of caring services that Blue Care specialises in.
So please help us to support them in raising these much needed funds. We thank you in advance for your generosity.
Regards
Duane
The Mind Body Connection
Evidence shows that physical activity slows cognitive decline related to aging and helps stave off dementia.
Research shows that we should begin thinking of body and mind health as conceptually identical. The two are linked at the deepest levels. No matter your age, it seems, a strong, active body is crucial for building a strong, active mind!
Scientists have always suspected as much, although they have not been able to prove it. The idea of the ‘scholar-athlete’ goes back to the culture of ancient Greece, in which fitness was almost as important as learning itself. The Greeks were clued into the mind-body connection.
For several decades we’ve known about one effect of exercise on the brain, the ‘endorphin high’ that makes us feel good during and right after exercise. Recently, scientists have uncovered some longer-lasting effects of exercise on the brain. Regular exercise improves your mood, decreases anxiety, improves sleep and raises self-esteem. All these benefits don’t come because you notice what you’ve lost around your waist. Rather, they come from exercise-induced alterations inside your head.
The process of growing new nerve cells in the brain has been thought impossible for decades. Researchers have announced that simply by putting subjects on a three month aerobic workout regime, this is possible and measurable. Vigorous exercise can also cause older nerve cells to form new connections that make the brain run faster and more efficiently.
With exercise, several biological changes occur that make your nerve cells more robust. The blood and energy supply to the brain improves. The genes in nerve cells signal the production of proteins called ‘growth factors’. These substances induce nerve cells to grow, branch and make connections with one another, and in some areas of the brain, give rise to new nerve cells. These important biological processes, which are essential to adaptation and learning, tend to slow down with age and also in response to stress, after brain injury and in depression. Exercise can speed the process back up again, making it a respectable, though partial antidote to stress and aging.
Exercise is also a pretty good antidepressant, studies conducted at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden have shown it to be equal to drugs or psychotherapy. Through stimulating nerve growth in the hippocampus, which is the region of the brain involved in regulating mood and storing memory, exercise can relieve and probably prevent depression. This conclusion has been supported by further animal studies at California State University.
The type of exercise also doesn’t seem to matter much – aerobic exercise and strength training or a combination, are equally effective. Thirty minutes per day of moderate exercise – at least a brisk walk for example – can help. Build 10 minutes of walking into your daily commute by parking a little farther from the office. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you think exercise is boring, keep yourself stimulated by listening to music or an audiobook.
Fact: Aerobic activity has been found to increase the size of specific areas of the brain, notably the temporal and prefrontal cortices, which control functions involved in memory, multi-tasking, planning and paying attention
DLF Therapy can be practised by anyone who wishes to connect to the awesome healing power of Life Force Energy.
The Pulse workshop uses quantum physics theory, combined with metaphyics to understand the effects energy has on our body, mind and soul. Julie demonstrates and teaches simple techniques to show that every individual has access to the subconscious part of the mind.
