Combating Stress and Tension in 2009
Stress is the ‘perceived’ inability to cope. In other words it is the physiological result of emotional imbalance. Physiological, meaning it has real and physical effects on the body. When stress is not managed effectively it can manifest in skin disorders such as eczema, stomach ulcers, or even muscular tension in the body.
Statistics show that: 1 in 6 adults will experience anxiety, and 1 in 5 Australians will suffer from a mental health illness or problem during their lifetime.
We all handle stress differently and our aim should be to find ways to help us cope with it better.
We all need ‘pressure’ in life to achieve anything. Think of the last time you had a deadline at work, or how we always leave it to the last day to finish a project, doesn’t seem to matter if we have a week or a month to do something, it always takes just as long as we have.
Too much or too little pressure can result in stress. When we are placed under stress – the pituitary gland sends a message from the brain to the adrenal glands and the hormone adrenalin is released into the blood stream. At the same time free fatty acids are released into the bloodstream from the liver. This is to provide fat which can be burnt for energy, but these days we are rarely placed in a situation where we are required to run away or fight, so the fatty acids don’t always get used.
Now scientists have proven the physical link between stress, heart disease and obesity. What can we do to prevent this from happening? Regular exercise will help to burn the free fatty acids that are released into the blood when we are stressed. And it has been proven that using aromatherapy around the home and office can help us to better handle stress.
Why use Aromatherapy?
Because it is effective and easy to use. Aromatherapy is not just a pleasant smell - some oils have anti-bacterial properties equal to antibiotic drugs, while others have a calming psychological effect relieving stress, depression and insomnia.
How does Aromatherapy work?
Our sense of smell can directly influence the central nervous system. This explains how inhaling pure oils can change our mood and the way we feel, by influencing a hormonal response and even stimulating memory associations.
Methods of using Aromatherapy oils
The easiest ways to use Aromatherapy around the home and office include; making a room spray or body spray, an aftershave or perfume which can be applied daily to help keep you calm and in control of your emotions. Now that we have plenty of water (in Queensland anyway) you could even enjoy a relaxing bath by adding aromatherapy oils to some bath salts. Inhalations is the old fashioned technique of inhaling the steam from a bowl of boiling water and works really well to help clear sinus congestion and clear your head. Add 2 drops of eucalyptus and 2 drops of peppermint to the bowl of water, place a towel over your head and inhale the aroma of the oils as they are carried up your nose by the steam. These oils have antiviral, antibacterial, decongestant and expectorant properties. Which, basically means they help break up mucus and clear the airways.
If you have a sore throat, you could also put 2 drops of Tea Tree oil in a glass of water and gargle. Just remember to spit it out.
You can also make a tooth scrub out of macrobiotic (natural) sea salt. Add 2 drops of spearmint oil to about 50g of sea salt, dip in your tooth brush and away you go. The gentle abrasive action leaves your teeth feeling really clean and smooth.
By far the easiest and most effective way of using Aromatherapy oils is in a car vaporiser and electric vaporiser. We have created our Energy oils to make this even simpler for you by designing unique blends of aromatherapy oils to help you relax or to be more energised. Simply add 6 drops of Energy oil to your electric vaporiser and start enjoying the benefits immediately.
The essence of Aromatherapy is creating blends of essential oils for specific purposes. When 2 or more essential oils are combined, the result is a synergistic blend, the beneficial effects of which are far greater than those of the individual essential oils which go to make it.
To learn the art of synergistic blending is a dedicated and lengthy process; David Webb is one of Australia's leading Aromatherapists and has developed our range of Energy Oils which are ready to use straight from the bottle. Each blend is mixed by David personally so that you are guaranteed quality in every bottle.
Our Energy Oils are a unique concept, which are designed to assist you with how you want to feel, physically or emotionally. Their names are descriptive - indicating what mood they will help to create in your own home or workplace.
For the month of February, we’re giving you the chance to try any of our unique Energy oils for the heavily discounted price of $11.00. That is a massive saving of $6.90 per bottle.
